Phyna, the winner of Big Brother Naija Season 7, has publicly apologized for her controversial take on the issue of abortion.

It all started in a recent interview with Chude Jideonwo where reality TV star Phyna made a statement generalizing that all women have had one or two abortions, stating that she herself has had two abortions in the past. This statement was met with widespread backlash, and Phyna even got into a heated argument with fellow Big Brother Naija alumnus Princess over her comments.
Following the huge backlash she’s been getting, she came out to render an official apology. She said that she meant no harm and did not mean to make such a generalization.
In the statement, Phyna wrote:
‘I write this statement to address the issues concerning an interview I did months ago where I talked about a very sensitive topic and I inaccurately suggested “all” women have engaged in it. Firstly, I would like to address the fact that in as much as I was misunderstood, I didn’t mean to project it on every female gender. I will never encourage abortion especially not in this part of the world, where it can pose a great threat to the life of the person with the illegal and unhealthy procedures that surround it.’
She asserted that she does not stand for abortion and that she is focused on bettering herself and working with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to that effect.
Phyna explained that she was “too expressive in the heat of the interview” and that she should not be seen as someone who supports abortion. She admitted to her mistakes and said that she is currently working with gender-based organizations and NGOs to provide sensitization and education about abortion and other societal issues that are prone to affecting girls.
Phyna thanked her fans, friends, and family for their constant love and support, and she said that she does not intend to let them down.
